The holes have been dug, posts have been cemented in place and two plastic bottle frames have been put up.
WE NEED MORE 2LT PLASTIC BOTTLES, PLEASE HELP BY SAVING YOUR WASHED OUT PLASTIC BOTTLES AND BRINGING THEM TO THE GREEN BIN IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL.
We have signed up for an innovative recycling programme called Recycool which turns old mobile phone and PDA handsets and used printer cartridges into cash for the school.
Recycool develops the pupils’ enterprise skills as well as teaching them about recycling and the importance of protecting the environment. The programme also allows us to raise funds – the more mobile phones, PDAs and cartridges, CD’s and DVD’s we collect, the more money we will receive in exchange for these products. They money we raise from these efforts will go towards Eco-Council and Forest School projects around the school.
You can support our Recycool initiative by donating your own empty printer cartridges, mobile phones, CSs/DVDs, and PDAs. We have a collection box for these items in the main foyer next to the blue chairs. So if you normally put empty cartridges in the bin or have an old mobile gathering dust in a drawer please drop them into the box.
Not only can collecting these items normally considered as rubbish raise funds for the school, it can also help the environment. Handsets and cartridges contain toxic substances which, if they are dumped in landfill, can leak into the surrounding soil and pollute the earth. When they are Recycooled they will be passed to recycling experts Redeem, who refurbish the products for reuse.

Christ Church ‘Composting Crew’ has begun composting the cores and peels of fruits and vegetables consumed in KS1 and the tea bags from the staff break room. The group, made up from our Eco Council members and an additional pupil from each Year 1-6, are responsible for taking the raw material out to the compost bins daily, turning the compost and adding leaves and other materials to the bins each week. The group participated in a special workshop teaching them about compost and worms as well as an additional workshop about landfill material and how long it takes to decompose. So far our composting efforts have been very successful, drastically reducing the amount of daily waste in each of the KS1 classrooms. We hope to grow this project to begin composting kitchen waste, but we need more composting bins before that begins.
